In the production of our Persian Khatam Backgammons we use premium quality 12 mm walnut veneer on the sides and 4mm first quality MDF. The design transferred to the backgammon board is applied with 3 layers of varnish in order to protect the surface and provide durability. Later 3 layers of glossy polyurethane varnish are applied again to finish the backgammon surface.

The outer and inner sides of the Persian Khatam Backgammons are painted in suitable colors and with varnish to finish the surface. Handmade Chess pieces and Checkers are made of Boxwood (Boxes Sempervirens). Slow growth of Boxwood renders the wood very hard, heavy, and with fine grain produced by growth rings, making it ideal for chess pieces and checkers. Boxwood does not contain bacteria.

The advantage of a weighted chess piece is that it will not tip over as easily as a standard piece would. This is especially helpful if you enjoy playing chess outdoors because you won't fall victim to the wind.

The feel of a weighted piece is preferred by players because they are comfortable to the touch and move well across the chess board. Each chess piece has individual felt pad. Felts are soft to the touch.

They provide good protection of fine wood boards from scratches. The felt pad is quiet when set down during play. Felt chessmen glide smoothly across a wooden board without lifting. Felt's soft texture is more traditional and often favored by serious players. 15 dark, 15 light color checkers, 2 pcs 10 mm dices.
